ABSTRACT

Honey bees are threatened by many viruses. The deformed wing virus [DWV] is the most prevalent and is proposed by many authors to be involved in colony losses. In Algeria, no study was carried out to determine the presence of this virus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the DWV on bee colony mortalities, and its relationship with the parasitic mite Varroa destructor. The study was conducted in an apiary located in the central region of Algeria. The presence of deformed wing virus in honey bee colonies Apis mellifera intermissa in Algeria was detected by PCR. In total, 42% of the bee samples collected in the apiary were jbund positive for DWV

ABSTRACT

The objective of this work was to study the prevalence of nosemosis, a disease caused by a protozoan Nosema sp. in bee colonies Apis mellifera intermissa. Samples were taken between late February and early March on eight apiaries in 3 regions with high potential beekeeping activies [Blida, Boumerdes, Algiers]. This study showed that 44.7% of the colonies were infected with Nosema; the heavy infestation was related to the sampling period [February, March]. Apiaries in the Boumerdes region were characterized by an infection rate of 56%, this rate was significantly higher compared to rates in the apiaries of Blida and Algiers. This high prevalence of Nosema in the Boumerdes region is linked to climatic conditions [high humidity and long winters]

ABSTRACT

We report the case of a 44 years old women who had successful operative repair of simple coarctation of the aorta at the age of 18 years. An associated bicuspid aortic valve with normal function was respected. Long-term ealuation demonstrated aortic root aneurysm that occurred in the absence of hypertension, recoarctation or deterioration of the bicuspid aortic valve and that was subjected to corrective surgery. Two years later, this patient died after a myocardial infarction the result. found in many studies published in the literature, demonstrate that since surgical repair of aortic coarctation became available, life expectancy of patients has improved but is not as normal as in unaffected pees because of a high rate of cardiovascular complications. Aneurysm in the ascending aorta [type A aneurysm] is a rare complication after surgical correction of aortic coarctation but this condition carries a high risk of dissection, rupture and death that justifies regular follow-up imaging. Bicuspid aortic valve, when associated to coarctation of the aorta, is an independent predictor of type A aneurismal formation and should be considered as a disease of the entire aortic root

ABSTRACT

Hydatid cardiac cyst [HCC] is rare. The aim of our study is to determine clinical and echocardiographic features of HCC of interventricular septum. We studied 3 patients aged between 21 and 33 years old, 2 of them presented a typical syncope. An extra cardiac localization of hydatid cyst is found in 2 cases. The transthoracic echocardiography showed a mass developed in inter-ventricular septum, it was cystic non-echogenic in 2 cases and pseudotumoral one time. All our patients were operated and 2 of them required a pace maker implantation because of conduction abnormalities
